LOCATION:
Oakland, the East Bay's geographic and cultural hub, is located 14 miles east of San Francisco, and is bounded by Berkeley, Alameda, and San Leandro. It lies at the center of a dense freeway network and has an international airport and port that serves the entire Northern California region.

Oakland
is the greater East Bay regional hub for commerce, center of the
East Bay Green Corridor and Northern California’s international
trade gateway to the global marketplace for goods and services. As
an international City, Oakland is the site of both the country’s 5th
busiest container port and one of the fastest growing international
airports. Our city is well known as the Eastbay’s international
trade gateway to fast growing economies of Asia.

Areas, totaling 13,000 acres (about 37% of the city’s
total area). In summary, the total area under Redevelopment Agency authority includes 1) the downtown area from Jack London Square to I-580 2) West Oakland (including the former Army Base) 3) all waterfront land, from Lake Merritt to the Oakland-San Leandro border and varying in width one to four miles inland. 4) two small sites in north and southeast Oakland, respectively.
