LOCATION:

San Leandro is a Charter City that was incorporated in 1872. It covers 15 square miles and has a population of approximately 82,000.

DESCRIPTION:

•   Plaza Project Area - Focused around downtown San Leandro
•   City of San Leandro/Alameda County Joint Project Area - Most of E. 14th Street plus an area to the south of Marina Boulevard and the Lewelling/Hesperian area.
•   West San Leandro/MacArthur Project Area - Most of the industrial area of the city west of Highway 880.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES

EDUCATION: San Leandro Unified School District:
The San Leandro School District consists of 12 schools serving approximately 8,900 students in grades K-12. The District is organized into eight elementary schools (K-5); two middle schools (6-8); one high school (9-12) and one continuation school with an independent study program. In addition, a comprehensive adult education program, the San Leandro Adult School, serves approximately 5,000 people annually. The students are taught by 500 highly qualified teachers and supported by 250 dedicated classified personnel.

HEALTH: San Leandro has 4 hospitals with 890 beds.
CULTURAL: There are 45 places of religious worship, 4 libraries, and 18 parks. Additionally, there are a variety of regional assets which include: 4 newspapers, 18 television channels, 1 cable TV system, a regional park system, and the San Francisco Bay.
