East Bay EDA participates in alternative energy industry study

Study will focus on the economic development potential of emerging industry cluster

Over the past six months, close to $900 million in grant funding has been invested in the Bay Area to study various aspects of bio-fuels.  Coupled with the record amounts of venture capital pouring into Bay Area solar energy companies, it is hard not to sense the excitement surrounding alternative energy.

To make sure that the East Bay does not overlook opportunities to leverage this amazing opportunity the East Bay EDA is assisting the Bay Area Economic Forum in developing a systematic way of tracking and working with this emerging industry. Funded by a Department of Labor WIRED grant, the completed plan will serve as a benchmark for other areas of the country seeking to learn how to understand and take advantage of the innovation economy in their own regions.

Work Session will focus on youth workforce development

Plan to attend "Youth Radio: Building Bridges", August 9th, 2007

The upcoming East Bay EDA work session and panel discussion will focus on youth workforce development in the East Bay. The theme of this work session is "Youth Radio: Building Bridges -- Connecting East Bay Youth to the Region’s Thriving Multimedia Economy”. The session will be held at the Youth Radio facility, located in downtown Oakland from 2-3:30 PM, Thursday, August 9, 2007.

This work session will be an opportunity to hear from one of the East Bay’s most innovative and pioneering training programs preparing youth for careers in the field of communications. Youth Radio is a model for business/education collaboration. With numerous applications to other employment sectors, this workshop will be extremely informative for all who attend. The session is hosted by Comcast and co-sponsored with the East Bay’s Business Councils and Chambers.

A tour of the Youth Radio facility and networking reception, sponsored by Comcast, will be held following the work session program. To register or for more information, please contact Stephanie Brown, (510) 272-6843. We look forward to seeing you there!

SEMICON West 2007 Tradeshow participation a success

East Bay EDA Booth participants generate 34 leads for the East Bay

Six member cities (Alameda, Fremont, Hayward, Oakley, San Ramon and Union City) and East Bay EDA partner organizations, The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (MANEX), and East Bay Works (Concord and College of Alameda) participated in the East Bay EDA booth at the SEMICON West 2007 tradeshow, July 16-20 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Thanks to the high level of exposure, and the presence of our members and partners at the booth, East Bay EDA’s trip to SEMICON West 2007 resulted in 34 leads. The next tradeshow in which East Bay EDA will participate will be the new BIOMEDevice 2007, October 3-4, 2007, at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Mark your calendars accordingly. Just contact Keith Sutton, (510) 272-3885 if you have any questions or are interested in participating in the booth.
